Classes and Workshops
Join Jessica Roberts, farmer, baker, and seasoned cook as she teaches skills for sustainable eating. Some of the classes include:
Bread and Butter
In this workshop, students will learn the basic skill of making a delicious, hearty loaf of bread. While the loaves are rising, we learn how to use the cream from local, raw milk to churn fresh butter. Enjoy the rewards of eating the bread hot out of the oven with a sweet pat of homemade butter.
Cooking in Season
In an age where many people rely on the over-processed “convenience foods” it can be difficult to start eating locally and cooking with fresh vegetables. Through a number of classes, Jessica will present a delicious and balanced meal using locally grown, seasonal vegetables.
Food Preservation
A challenge that we all face in eating locally is the availability of fresh produce in our temperate climate. We educate you on the ways that you can preserve the bounty of the growing season. As the season progresses, we will host workshops to teach groups how to can and freeze fruits and vegetables. We will also host a special workshop on the techniques of lacto-fermentation, where we will make sauerkraut, pickles, and other fermented vegetables.
